My Heritage Vault

Care Homes

Many care home residents spend time reflecting back on their life, as well as thinking about the next generation. Setting up a My Heritage Vault account can be a very positive activity. In addition to the enjoyment of recounting and documenting stories and photographs from their life, it can also provide a relief to know that some of these are able to be stored and accessed by future generations.

We appreciate the role that carers play in the life of the residents; listening, encouraging and supporting their activities to the best of their physical and mental capabilities. We also appreciate that, even though our systems are designed to be easy to use, help may be needed from family and carers to manually handle photograph albums, to take photos and record stories and videos on a mobile, and to log in and upload them to a website.

Therefore, whenever a care home resident takes up any package, once the resident has uploaded a profile, a profile photo, at least 10 photographs with descriptions, and at least one written story or video post, we will pay the carer or care home (as agreed with the care home manager) a 20% fee.

Dementia

For residents with dementia, the process of recounting stories and looking at photographs can be very beneficial. It can help to stimulate memories and conversation, and can be a very positive activity. It can also be a way to help carers and family members to understand the resident better, and to help them to feel more connected to them.

We recommend putting the oldest photographs, videos and stories first. As the dementia progresses, more recent memories are normally lost first, so you can move down the page as far as is appropriate, or even hide the more recent ones from public view as time goes on if they cause any distress. Visitors, such as grandchildren, or even children of the resident, who did not know them when they were young, can then have more to talk about, and even a collaborative discussion where they add names and stories to the images for other visitors to see and discuss.
